The Department of Pediatrics in
Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal Hospital - Dammam in collaboration with the Deanship of
Postgraduate Studies (KSAU-HS), Eastern Region held the 1st Saudi Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns Conference with the participation of 3 renowned Canadian Specialists: Dr. Avash Jeet Singh, Ms. Elene Dina Vanderpas and Ms. Debra Arlene O’Flaherty.
Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj, the Regional Executive Director of the Ministry of National Guard -Health Affairs in the Eastern Region pointed out:” This conference holds a high scientific and medical value as it is a subspecialty conference that highlighted a vital topic in regards to at-risk or unwell newborns.
This conference helps workers in newborn care to identify the first signs of high risk cases, such as symptoms of hypoglycemia which differs from adults’ symptoms, before getting the lab results.
The Head of Pediatrics Department at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal Hospital, Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns Consultant Dr. Fahad Al Sufayan said:” The organizing committee decided to annually hold this conference due to exchanging its high scientific value and international expertise in an innovative way”.
Moreover, the participants received intensive training through a simulation workshop as well as recommending the importance critical thanking to identify cases and the need of holding continuous awareness conferences.
The conference lasted four days and was accredited with 40
CME hours.
