The 6th international conference of Breast Cancer activities, organized by
Princess
Norah Oncology Center, which lasted for two days were concluded with 900 participants from various health sectors in the Kingdom along with a group of international
speakers from the United States, Australia and England.
The conference aimed to discuss the latest updates in diagnosing and treating breast cancer
and giving Saudi doctors the opportunity to cooperate with international expertise in treating cancer
patients, moreover, unify treatment methods and strengthen the relations with researchers to reach best
results.
The conference was accredited with 30 CME hours by the
Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, the most
important topics discussed were:
Breast Cancer Consultant, Dr. Mitib Al Fuhaid, explained that breast cancer is the most
common type among females in Saudi Arabia, as it represents 25% according to the Saudi Cancer Registry, and the
average age of diagnoses is 47 years old, and more than 50% of the cases were detected in their second and
third stage. It is expected that the cancer incidence rates will increase in the future. A recent study showed that
the risks of developing breast cancer will increase by 350% and the death rates will increase by 160% over the next
ten years, which will be a great threat to health care costs in the Kingdom.
The activities included a medical exhibit at
King Abdulaziz Medical City in
Jeddah, and awareness day at the Intercontinental Hotel with the presence of the president of Princess Norah
Oncology Center, Dr. Wasil Jastaniah, as well as educational exhibit in the Red Sea Mall for the public.
