Heartsaver First Aid Course Inaugural Course 

The Inaugural Course for the “Heartsaver First Aid Course” took place at the Postgraduate Training Center, National Guard Health Affairs with the successful completion of all participants.
 
Dr. Abdelhakim Elkholy and Mrs. Zehra’ Al-Hilali two regional trainers accredited
By the American Heart Association (AHA).
 
The course consisted of the following areas:  
•Medical Emergencies: breathing problems, chocking, allergic reactions, chest pain and heart attack, stroke, fainting, diabetes, seizures and shock.
•Injury Emergencies: bleeding, wounds, head and spine injuries, broken bones and sprains, burns and electrocution.
•Environmental Emergencies: animal bites & stings, temperature-related emergencies, poison emergencies.
•Adult, Child & Infant CPR.
•AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
•First Aid Kit contents and its importance.
Dr. Abdelhakim Elkholy, regional trainer accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA), said that this type of course can be given as a whole or in sessions as needed.
 
It consists of main sections: Fist Aid, CPR for Adults, Children and Infants, the use of AED and Medical Emergencies. Today’s course was in English and plans are undergoing to present this course in Arabic as well.
 
Mrs. Zehra’ Al-Hilali, Course Director and regional trainer accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) said that this course is suitable for many categories such as: 

•Employees working at companies, corporations, business and other entities.
•Lifeguards and staff working at hotels and recreation centers.
•Civil Defense and fire fighters.
•Families both parents and their children.
•Teachers at schools and colleges and their students.
•Simply to any person who is not a healthcare provider from the age of 14 onward.
 
She also added that this course focuses on training the participants on a number of skills such as the use of Epinephrine Injection, taking care of patient in shock status, control bleeding, dealing with broken bones, chocking, CPR, the use of AED and other techniques by using special training equipment.
 
Christopher Mangonon, the course coordinator, is receiving enquiries from a number of organizations outside the National Guard Health Affairs. Arrangements are undergoing to conduct courses for their staff at the PTC or in-house training.
 
Mrs. Manal Al Naser, PTC Director, added that this course is one of the many Life Support courses regularly conducted at the PTC such as the Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support for Adult (ACLS) and Pediatric Life Support (PALS). And all these programs are offered in affiliation with the American Hearts Association (AHA) as per the Training Agreement signed between both organizations.
 
Participants received international accredited completion certificates from the American Heart Association and the Postgraduate Training Center at the National Guard.
