Separation of Syrian Parasitic Twin
Based on the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah the operation to separate the parasitic twin from Syria was undertaken at King Abdulaziz Medical City - National Guard Health Affairs, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Thursday, 8 April 2010.
The operation was a complete success and the child is in a stable condition. The separation took seven (7) hours to complete and went through several stages as stated by HE Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Head of the Multidisciplinary Team at King Abdulaziz Medical City.
After consultation and review of the case the Multidisciplinary Team decided to proceed with the operation to separate the twin. Preliminary investigations including a CT scan, Ultrasound, and MRI, in addition to, a nuclear scan for the renal functions that revealed the parasitic twin had two lower limbs and an extra pelvis. As a result, Sarah had two urinary bladders, three kidneys, two sets of genitourinary systems, in addition to congenital anomalies of the small intestine. This was a very rare case and there have only been 6 previous cases of this nature successfully performed in the Kingdom of Humanity.
HE Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, Chief Executive Officer of National Guard Health Affairs congratulated HE Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah and the Multidisciplinary Team on the successful outcome of this separation. He also expressed his gratitude and thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah for his ongoing support to the separation of conjoined twins.
The parents also extended their deep appreciation to King Abdullah for his compassion and generosity as well as thanking Dr. Rabeeah and the Multidisciplinary Team on the successful separation of Sarah.
HE Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah extended his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah for his unconditional support, wisdom, and leadership in promoting the scientific efforts and medical care for purely humanitarian reasons regardless of religion or culture.
This was the 26th successful separation performed in the Kingdom of Humanity.
