Based on the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to treat and transfer the mother of the Saudi conjoined Twins from Bisha to King Abdulaziz Medical City - Riyadh, the Minister of Health, Head of the Multidisciplinary Surgical and Medical Team Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah said that the mother was received in King Abdulaziz Medical City on the 28th of July 2012 and was immediately provided with the necessary medical care and a Caesarean section was performed on the 7th of August 2012.
HE Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah added that the twins Abdullah and Salman were monitored in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). After that, a Multidisciplinary Surgical and Medical Team was formed and carried out a number of medical tests and the twins are conjoined in the chest, abdominal area and the heart and liver membranes. The twins suffer from birth defects in their urinary system as well; Abduallah in particular was being treated to ensure the stability of his urinary system.
Furthermore, HE added that after the completion of the necessary tests and medical check-ups, the team decided to perform the separation procedure next Friday, on the 21st of December 2012. The procedure is expected to last for ten hours and will be conducted through eight stages.
On the other hand, both Dr. Al Rabeeah and HE Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, Chief Executive Officer, NGHA thanked and appreciates the generous gesture of King Abdullah, who through his humanitarian actions and compassion has changed so many lives.
