
Forty-eight hours after the successful separation of the Saudi Twins, HE Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Minister of Health and Head of the Multidisciplinary Surgical and Medical Team announced that (Abdullah and Salman) conditions are stable after the separation procedure that took place on Friday December 21, 2012 at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh.
In a press conference upon his visit to the twins, Dr. Al Rabeeah said “The twins are under anesthesia and still in the close observation and monitoring Unit and both of the twins are now stable and their vital signs are well without any signs of complications”.
He added: “The medical team is giving the twins medicines to move fluids through their bodies, and we expect that in the next few hours, we will start to gradually reduce their dependency on ventilator".
Furthermore, Dr. Al Rabeeah ensured everyone regarding Abduallah’s kidney: "His kidney is responding, and it will be adequately enough to perform and deliver kidney functions”. He added that the twins will remain on the ventilators for a week, and they need to be in the ICU for two to three weeks.
The parents checked the health of their twins and expressed their thanks to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for his parental gesture.
Noteworthy that this is the 31st separating procedure for conjoined twins in King Abdulaziz Medical City, it lasted for nearly 9 hours through 8 stages.
