24 days after the successful separation of the Algerian conjoined twins, Sara and Ikram performed onThursday, 17 March 2011, at the King Abdulaziz Medical City, National Guard Health Affairs - Riyadh, the Head of the Surgical and Multidisciplinary Team, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, stated that the twins will be discharged shortly to return with their parents to Algeria.
The twins were transferred from PICU to Ward 7 on 26 March 2011 where they have been receiving an intensive physiotherapy and rehabilitation programme.The programme will continue upon their return to Algeria and their progress will be followed-up by the Medical Team accordingly. The twins are feeding well and interacting with their parents and the staff.
Based on the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah the twins arrived in
Riyadh from Algeria on 2nd March and an in-depth discussion by the members of the team was held on
Saturday, 12 March where it was decided to perform the separation on Thursday, 17 March 2011.
The separation was carried out over 9 phases and took 11 hours with a 75% success rate.
