Separating Tanzanian Conjoined TwinsSeparating Tanzanian Conjoined Twins 

The medical and surgical team will perform the Tanzanian conjoined twins (Aneisa and Melenes) separation operation on Sunday, the 23rd  of December 2018  in King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital (KASCH) at King Abdul Aziz Medical City, Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs -Riyadh.

This decision was the result of a meeting held in the presence of the medical and surgical team headed by H.E. The Advisor to the Royal Court, The Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah.

Dr.  Al-Rabeeah explain  in the press statement that the twins are female who are sharing chest, abdomen and pelvis while each girl has one lower limb and share third lower limb. They also share liver, intestines, urinary and reproductive system.

After studying this twins case, H.E. Dr.  Al-Rabeeah pointed out that the medical and surgical team have predicted that this separation surgery has a success rate of 60%. The operation is expected to take approximately 13 hours over 9 phases with the participation of 32 physicians, surgeons, technicians and nursing staff.

Separating Tanzanian Conjoined TwinsIn conclusion of his press statement, he extended his appreciation towards the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. He also mentioned that with God willing, this will mark surgery number (47) in a the series of separation surgeries performed on Siamese twins in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

H.E. Chief Executive Officer of Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs, President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Dr. Bandar Al Knawy also extended his appreciation towards the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense for their unlimited support to the health sectors in the Kingdom and their eagerness for development in order to achieve the future aspirations to meet the 2030 vision.

Dr. Bandar Al Knawy also extended his appreciation to His Highness Prince Khalid bin Abdulaziz bin Mohamed bin Eyaf Almuqrin, Minister of National Guard for his devotion towards receiving the twins and his unlimited support for Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs at all levels.

This surgery was based on the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness, the Deputy Premier which reflects the developed level of the medical services in Saudi Arabia. ​
