On Sunday, 25 October, the Family Medicine and Primary Health Care Center in Madinah held two awareness campaigns during the Breastfeeding Week and the Breast Cancer Awareness Month entitled (For A Healthier Planet) under the patronage of Dr. Ammar Al-Hasani, Deputy Executive Director of Medical Services and the presence of Dr. Sumaya Al-Sharif, Consultant Family Medicine and Director of the Primary Health Care Center, PMBAH-MNGHA.
Given the current circumstances and the outbreak of COVID-19 in addition to the concerns for the safety of our patients, visitors and staff; the campaigns were celebrated by hosting awareness-raising seminars regarding the significance of breastfeeding and its role in early development of the immune system in Infants. Some misconceptions about breastfeeding have been corrected, especially in light of the current pandemic and shedding light upon the importance of early detection of breast cancer and how to reach early detection and follow-up centers.
The campaign was well received by mothers who support breastfeeding through Zoom and Whatsapp applications, where the center created chat groups that include mothers who support breastfeeding as part of the preparations for the Family Medicine Center in Madinah to be one of the child-friendly centers.
