Burn Unit
launched the "Burn Prevention Awareness Week" on the 3rd of February 2015, under the
slogan "Burn prevention is everyone’s responsibility" in collaboration with the Department of Health
Education Services and Department of Safety and Fire Control, with the presence of Dr. Mansour Al Jundi, the
Executive Director of Medical Services in the Western region.
The campaign and its exhibition, which lasted for two days, covered variety
of topics, and was held in the Outpatient Center with the participation of Civil Defense Department in Makkah, and
many departments in KAMC-J.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee Dr. Mamoon Daghistani, Plastic Surgery
Consultant, Head of the Burn Unit explained that KAMC-J launched this campaign for the second year to educate the
community about burns and how to treat them (First Aid), and the factors that affect the severity of the burns.
Dr. Daghistani added that out of the 260 cases, that have been received for
treatment in the Burn Unit during the four years, 60% of them were children and 40% were adults.
On the other hand, Dr. Mohammed Al-Qahtani, Plastic Surgery Consultant,
explained that we should stay away from Traditional medicine as it is considered unsafe and non-sterile, he added
that we should see a doctor if the burned area is large.
It is worth mentioning that the educational forum was organized in the
Medical specialized Center of the Primary Health Care on Thursday the 5th of February 2015, also in Al Andalus
Mall on Friday, the 6th of February 2015 at 5:00 pm to educate the society.
