In collaboration with the Saudi Cancer Society the National Guard Health Affairs organized a cancer awareness day on Tuesday 9, February2010. This event was held in Dr. Sameer bin Huraib auditorium at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh.
The Chairman of the Oncology Department, Dr. Abdulrahman Jazieh and the supervisor of the Social Services at Saudi Cancer Society, Dr. Abdulrahman Al Kharashi both spoke at the event, stressing the importance of awareness and early detection.
In this regard and in efforts to increase public awareness the International Union against Cancer organizes a World Cancer Day every year, promoting the importance of early detection and treatment.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the world. Therefore, the National Guard Health Affairs made a point of holding such awareness events to educate the public and support those afflicted by the disease. The events included expert lectures and instructive presentations pointing out the different types of cancer, methods of detection and the importance of a healthy diet. It also entertained cancer patients through various contests and prizes.
