Breastfeeding Committee in
King Abdulaziz Hospital - Al Ahsa celebrated the Breastfeeding Week as a part of a number of activities and events targeting patients, visitors, staff and female school teachers and students.
On this note, Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj, the Regional Executive Director of the Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs in the Eastern Region pointed out: “ the hospital is focused on highlighting the importance of breastfeeding as one of the most important events that we cannot overlook, due to its impact on the next generation”.
In addition, Chairman of Pediatrics Department - King Abdul Aziz Hospital, and the Course Coordinator Dr. Hesham Al Girim said: "our hospital is a Baby-Friendly internationally recognized Hospital, therefore, we focus greatly on this public awareness”. He added, "we have recently established a specialized breastfeeding clinic, to conduct periodic follow-ups with the mother and child for the first six months. The clinic significantly contributes in providing consultation as one of the world breastfeeding Initiative articles ".
He further explained: “a specialized team is designated to conduct home visits to the nursing mother's in order to oversee the breastfeeding process and make sure that the child is fed properly along with designating a hot-line to answer questions about breastfeeding at any time."
Patient Educator and Breastfeeding Consultant Zahra Al Basri said: the main objective of these activities is to spread the culture of breastfeeding in the community, and problem solve all the obstacles”.
Finally, she added: “ a workshop for schools teachers was attended by more than 50 teachers from National Guard’s schools and the Ministry of Education, in which they have been trained on the proper way to breastfeed, how to start breastfeeding, how to overcome the obstacles and problems, and correct any misconceptions ".
