
Family Medicine and Primary Healthcare Center in Prince Mohammed Bin Abdul Aziz Hospital - AlMadinah celebrated the World Cancer Day through a series of events which were inaugurated by, Deputy Executive Director of Medical Services, Dr. Tarik Khashoggi. The events which lasted for two consecutive days aimed to raise the level of awareness of the patients and visitors on cancer and its preventive methods, while covering the most prevalent cancer types in Saudi Arabia.
In addition, a number of organizations and associations participated in this event under the management of the Primary Care Center’s Patient Relations.
Furthermore, family medicine consultant, Dr. Sumaya Alshareef delivered the opening speech in which she stressed the importance of holding such awareness event for cancer prevention and adapting healthy lifestyles, such as avoiding fast foods, lowering the consumption of red meat, exercising regularly and quitting smoking. She pointed out that in Saudi, the most common cancer type amongst men is colon cancer, while breast cancer is the prevailing type amongst women. She also stated that both types can be detected on early stages, where the recovery rate can be up to 90%.
