Safety Management and Burn Unit in King Abdulaziz Medical City - Jeddah participated in the World Civil Defense Day 2016 activities as well as the related awareness exhibition organized by the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Jeddah with the participation of many governmental and non-governmental relevant authorities following the theme "Media is Prevention," which was inaugurated by the Deputy Governor of Jeddah province Mr. Mohamed Wafi.
“King Abdulaziz Medical City - Jeddah participation was represented by providing a visual awareness presentation on how to care for burn patients containing initial first aid for first, second and third degree burns, and clarifying the factors that can affect the seriousness of the burns, such as the burn depth, area and the patient’s age. Publications to raise awareness have been distributed covering topics such as how to prevent gas accidents, oil burns, electricity incidents, incidents of smoking, heaters, electric heaters, and how to deal with surface burns at home”, said Dr. Mamoun Daghestani, Plastic Surgery Consultant and Head of the Burn Unit.
Moreover, Colonel Adel Al-Zahrani, Director of Safety and Fire Protection Department explained that their participation in this event aims to immunize the society against potential risks, whether before or after such incidents and work to providing secure and safe environment, whether at home or anywhere else, as well as spreading awareness regarding the procedures and necessary precautions to be followed after the occurrence of such incidents. In addition, one of our goals was the emphasis on raising awareness among parents, and how to do first aid as well as conducting awareness games targeting all age groups and competitions targeting children in order to establish the useful safety information in their minds to avoid following any misconceptions.
Last but not least, Colonel Adel Al-Zahrani pointed out that many schools scheduled students trips to visit the Safety and Fire Protection Department to explain and distribute awareness brochures and give a brief on means of safety and the procedures required for house safety. Also explaining the importance of providing how to guidelines on using fire extinguishers and how they should be placed in a prominent location and out of children reach. In addition to the importance of installing smoke detectors in the kitchen and corridors and train family members how to act when in case of fire incidents.
