Under the auspices of H.E. Chief Executive Officer of Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs, President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, the Eighth Family Meeting for Cochlear Implant and Other Implantable Hearing Devices was held in King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital in Riyadh on Thursday, 7th of May 2015. The meeting aims to meet the needs of the families who’s their members had a cochlear Implant in order to overcome any challenging obstacles.
The meeting covered some psychological lectures on how to communicate with cochlear implant patients as well as the optimal method of reward or punishment when parenting children with cochlear implants. Moreover, one patient shared his success story in achieving his dreams, despite his injury, which did not stop him from reaching his desired goals.
In addition, the event officials organized an entertainment educational corner for children with cochlear implants to develop their creativity and thinking skills as well as generate some positive energy and contained "LEGOs and puzzles games, archery, coloring, and a photography studio " and other events.
It is worth noting that the Cochlear Implant Program was first established in late 2008, and ever since, more than "188" implant procedures have been completed. The program is run by an integrated medical team covering "15" medical and social specialties, and it’s also the first center specialized in auditory brainstem implant the Middle East.
