Dr. Ahmed Al Ferayan, Neurosurgery Consultant and Head of the multidisciplinary team, assured that the twins (Rana and Ranim) are doing well and their vital signs are in a stable condition. The twins have been taken off the artificial respirator and are now breathing independently. Dr. Al Ferayan also stated that their motor responses (movement of arms and legs) are back to normal as well as their speech abilities as both twins are now completely responsive to everyone around them.
Dr. Al Ferayan confirmed that the twins have been taken off intravenous fluids and are currently being naturally fed. Rana and Ranim who had never been able to see each other – for two years and a half - have now been introduced face to face for the very first time.
Furthermore, Dr. Al Ferayan, on behalf of the multidisciplinary team, congratulated the twin’s parents on the success of the procedure as well as the multidisciplinary team’s outstanding achievement which was accomplished by Saudi professionals.
It is noteworthy to mention that this operation marks the 5th of its kind worldwide, and the 2nd in King Abdulaziz Medical City – NGHA; and both were successful.
