The Regional Executive Director of the Ministry of National Guard -Health Affairs in the Eastern Region, Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj,  launched  the Day Surgery Expansion in King Abdulaziz Hospital - Al Ahsa. On this occasion, Dr. Ahmad said that " Day Surgery is one of the most prominent pillars of modern hospitals, this project was initially launched since the hospital opening, and was renovated in 2011".

On this occasion, Dr. Al Arfaj said, "Our main goal is that every patient should have the optimal medical care, and day surgery has proved its efficacy in alleviating the patient’s suffering resulting from physical and mental distress,  we aspire to make this one of the prominent sections in the hospital, being that it achieved continuous successes and participated in the quality and speed of our services”.

In addition, Deputy Chairman of Surgery and Day Surgery Supervisor Dr. Fahad Saab said: “ the Day Surgery is known to be a huge contributor in to the development of anesthesiology and surgery, as well as surgical interventions, and the patient’s recovery has become more easier than before that it only requires him a few hours  to return to his / her daily activities. It also contributes to minimizing the patient waiting time as well as the admission days”.

He also explained that most patients are scheduled for day surgeries except for those who suffer from chronic diseases. The section used to have 2 rooms, 3 prepping and closing beds and 2 recovery rooms, however, now the section has 3 recovery rooms in addition to 9 beds.

Moreover, Dr. Saab added that last year, the section performed  more than 1,600 surgeries, and with the new expansion, we expect a 50 % to 100% increase , and the number of patients who will undergo a one-day surgery could reach  3,000 patients a year.

Last but not least, Dr. Saab also explained that the day surgery section eased a lot of the pressure experienced by the Department of Surgery, and contributed to the reduction of inpatients which, in turn, make room for vacant beds, in addition to the psychological, social and economic impact positive impact on both the patients and the hospital.
