The Academic Affairs Department in the Eastern Region conducted the 18th Diabetes Care Course in Imam Abdulrahman Al Faisal Hospital - Dammam. The course was attended by more than 75 participants including doctors and health practitioners from various disciplines. Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj, the National Guard Health Affairs regional executive manager in the Eastern province said: "this course comes as part of many courses scheduled periodically and continuously, and we always show great interest in conducting such activities because the scientific and practical values they offer."
This course is held two to three times a year and aims to educate care providers and provide them with the latest developments in the field of diabetes. The course has been accredited with 7 CME hours by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) and was attended by doctors, health practitioners and specialists in the field of health education.
Furthermore, Dr. Reem Al Amoudi, a consultant in endocrinology and diabetes at Imam Abdulrahman Al Faisal Hospital said that "The course included a umber of lectures and workshops presented by 11 lecturers; consultants in endocrinology and diabetes, and consultants in cardiology." She added saying that "Diabetes is an epidemic, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is now ranked 10 in the world with the highest number of estimated diabetes cases. Diabetes is a serious disease and has a lot of complications, such as, heart diseases, blindness, amputation which can be avoided by early detection."
