Executive Director of Medical Services - National Guard Health Affairs - the Western Region Dr. Mansoor Ahmed Jundi  launched the 9th Diabetes Educator Course on Saturday the 2nd of March  2013 at the Lectures Hall - King Abdulaziz Medical City – Jeddah. The course will last for a month in collaboration with King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences.

The ceremony began with a reciting from holy Qura’an, followed by a speech given by the course coordinator Ms. Iman Al Agl where she stated that this course comes within the activities of the Diabetes Program in King Abdulaziz Medical City, and added that education and awareness are essential to coping with this dangerous and chronic disease, and a strong aid for patients to live normally away from its complications.

She explained that the aim of the course is to increase the number of both male and female educators as well as giving students the necessary skills and background information to enhance the role of diabetes educators, to expose them to the latest developments and research in diabetes, to ensure that patients receive the excellent level of care and health education, and to encourage educators on raising awareness in the community to reduce the spread of this disease.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al Twaim, consultant, Head of Pediatric Endocrinology and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, explained that the participants will receive an extensive program that will cove the foundations and the basic principles of health education for diabetic patients including lectures, workshops and practical applications within the hospital.

Finally, the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Academic Affairs at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Dr. Mansour al-Qurashi expressed that this course is one of the most important courses in the field of preparing diabetes educators as the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties accredited this course with 30 CME hours.
