On behalf of HE Brigadier Engineer Khalid Mohammed Bakalka, Executive Director of Operations, Mr. Abdulaziz Al Harazi, Associate Executive Director of Operations in the western region launched the International Nutrition Week campaign “Enjoy Healthy Food That Tastes Great” on Tuesday, 11th March 2014; the campaign is organized by King Abdulaziz Medical City - Jeddah, represented by Clinical Nutrition Department.

In collaboration with Health Education Services and Safety Management Department, the campaign aims to raise awareness amongst the community in regards to the importance of healthy foods and its direct impact on the human health as well as chronic diseases prevention such as Diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity and other common diseases especially among children.

The International Nutrition Week is considered a special campaign to highlight the value of choosing healthy foods, avoiding bad eating habits, and enlightening people about the importance of regular physical exercising.

Moreover, NGHA effectively contributes to the growth and advancements of medical care in Saudi Arabia in all of the educational, therapeutic and preventive aspects.

Professor Rukayah Alothmani, Clinical Nutrition Specialist and a Health Educator Coordinator shed some light on obesity  through a presentation where she stated that obesity is an abnormal accumulation of fat in fat tissues in all parts of the body that eventually leads to unhealthy results and chronic diseases  due to several factors including excessive food consumption with high rates of saturated fats accompanied by a free of exercise lifestyle.

She demonstrated that the best way to control obesity is by exercising regularly as well as following a balanced diet rich in carbohydrates, oil free proteins and consuming healthy fats moderately.

Furthermore, she highlighted some important guidance to loose weight, some of which are:

  • Before starting a diet, make sure you are ready as this will positively reflect on you.

  • Remember that your health will improve by shedding the excessive weight.

  • Following healthy habits will help you in loosing the excessive weight.

  • Your diet and your physical exercise are your keys to a healthy weight, it may be difficult but it’s possible and it all begins with the right attitude.

  • Always change your lifestyle.

  • Make sure your new lifestyle is satisfying and interesting.     

The organizing Committee held several competitions in King Abdulaziz Medical City - Jeddah, including the Big Winner Competition, the Best Educational Poster for patients and the Best Healthy Dish.

It is worth mentioning that the Educational Forum will be held in the Outpatient Center in King Abdulaziz Medical City on Wednesday, March, 12th, 2014 as well as an Awareness Forum in Haifa Mall on Thursday, March 13, 2014.
