The Vascular Surgery Department in Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz Hospital in Al Madinah held a one-day training course on diabetic foot. The Deputy Executive Director of Medical Services, Professor Tariq Khashoggi commenced the course’s session with a speech welcoming the health practitioners from various health facilities in Al Madinah to take advantage of the course content and the diversity of the scientific lectures and specialized training workshops in which the trainee receives 6 CME hours accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCH​S). 

The training course was attended by different health practitioners from Miqat Hospital, MNGHA health units, King Abdullah Center for Hemodialysis, Family Medicine Center and Primary Health Care, in addition to a number of the hospital staff.

Moreover, the session was moderated and presented by Dr. Issam Ayad, Director of Operating Room Services and Head of Vascular Surgery Department alongwith the Dr. Samir Awad, Plastic Surgery Consultant at PMBAH and began by a detailed explanation of the common reasons for the prevalence of diabetes in Saudi Arabia, especially the diabetic foot while reviewing its severity and methods of prevention.

After that, the workshop associated with the session explained the proper test methods for diabetic foot via both types of tests, nervous test and blood circulation check in the foot with a training examination. Additionally, the workshop focused on how to take care of a diabetic foot including the guidelines and tips for diabetics as well as explaining the importance of the right choice for medical shoes, which differ from one case to another.

The workshop included an explanation of how to use the "Doppler" devices for diagnosis of ischemia and measuring blood pressure in diabetic foot.

Finally, the course concluded with comprehensive sessions on how to choose the right materials and medication to heal the wounds of diabetic foot and how to use the therapy of negative pressure to help heal wounds.
