
The activities of the experts on domestic violence 2nd meeting was concluded on Saturday 16th of May 2009, that was held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Adelah bint Abduallah bin Abdulaziz and the presence of the Minister of Justice Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkareem AL-Iesa.
The meeting was for the 2nd year on a row organized by the National Family Safety Program and the National Guard Health Affairs and A number of experts and professionals in preventing domestic violence attended the meeting from different ministries as well as relevant governmental and civil institutions in the Kingdom.
At the end of the meeting a number of obstacles have been addressed, these obstacles can obstruct domestic violence preventive efforts and addressed the necessity of finding solutions to them as well through the establishment of such forums and meetings. Some of these obstacles are:
•Lack of understanding the concept of domestic violence in our society and the existence of some misunderstanding of the legitimate laws associated with it, such as the legitimacy and the mandate of discipline.
•Lack of awareness programs and integrated Avenue between the public and professionals in various segments.
•Lack of a unified data, statistics and inadequate studies.
•The absence of a comprehensive and uniform procedural manual for protection from domestic violence in the Kingdom including reporting, response, intervention and rehabilitation.
•The absence of a specialized sector foe following up on domestic violence developments, activating and coordinating the efforts from different sectors.
This conference aimed to continue the success that had followed the previous domestic violence conference which was held in the Kingdom last year. Furthermore, it will discuss in its roundtable the main obstacles that face domestic violence prevention and find the best solutions. Officials from all relevant sectors will also participate in preparing a mission to deal with domestic violence in Saudi Arabia, and specialists will the exchange their experience on the effects of prevention, intervention and rehabilitation in cases of domestic violence.
