Imam Abdulrahman Al Faisal Hospital in Dammam conducted a World Diabetes Day to identify risks of diabetes and how to prevent, treat and control it.
This event is in response to the alarming increase of people affected by diabetes compared to 80 years ago where the percentage of adult patients didn’t exceed 5%. Currently, it reaches 23%.
Diabetes is caused by many factors including obesity, laziness and unhealthy food habits.
There is a significant increase globally but especially in the Middle East and the Gulf Region. According to the International Diabetes Federation, these numbers are expected to double in the next 20 years if appropriate preventive measures aren’t carried out.
