A unique surgery was performed in King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh on a Saudi woman in her fifties who was suffering from a Prolapsed Uterus. The operation was done using endoscopy and replaced the weakened tissues and cords.
The surgery has been done by a Saudi medical team from the Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery and Female Urology Unit in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in KAMC-Riyadh headed by Dr. Saeed Al Sary who is a consultant in the Unit.
Dr. Al Sary said that this surgery is the first of its kind in the Kingdom. He pointed out that the relaxed cords are caused by: consecutive births, old age and genetics. According to statistics for different countries, the proportion of having Prolapsed Uterus ranges from 30% to 93%, however, a similar number cannot be predicted due to the lack of accurate medical statistics.
Dr. Al Sary stated that this procedure is a better choice than other surgeries because of its primary results and how it reduces the possibility of having a Prolapsed Uterus in the future.
The patient was discharged three days after the operation without any complications or side effects and she is now in good health.
