His Royal Highness Prince Mitib bin Abdullah, Deputy Commander National Guard for Executive Affairs will sponsor the activities of the Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery International Convention entitled  “pursuit of knowledge”, organized by King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences and National Guard Health Affairs - Riyadh from 7 to 12 November 2009 in Makarim  hall at the Marriott Hotel - Riyadh.     

Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, the CEO of National Guard Health Affairs and the President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences stated that the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Mitib bin Abdullah of the conference reflects the support and interest the government has regarding the health services in the National Guard. He affirmed that the NGHA and KSAU-HS have made it a priority to conduct scientific conferences to increase the level of expertise that health workers require in various specialties in the Kingdom which in turn will affect the quality and efficiency of patient services.

Dr. Bandar explained that the three day Conference will cover the latest universal surgical techniques that deal with Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and Medicine as well as the latest global developments in diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, throat, head and neck diseases as well as abnormalities related to hearing and communication.

Dr. Al Knawy pointed out the importance of this conference which will have more than 20 internationally acclaimed speakers from North America, Europe and Asia as well as speakers from Arab and Gulf states and about 500 doctors from the Kingdom and abroad, making this conference the largest conference of its kind to be held this year in the Middle East.

Dr. Khalid Al-Mazrou, the Chairman of the ENT department in King Abdulaziz Medical City in the National Guard- Riyadh said that this conference will discuss many important topics such as sinusitis, its causes and related surgeries, the latest findings in facial surgeries as well as cochlear implants and its problems. It will also deal with diseases affecting children like tonsils, adenoids and problems that relate to airway difficulties caused by accidents and other congenital defects. The conference will also cover head and neck problems especially cancerous tumors and modern methods of treatment as well as throat and voice abnormalities.

This conference represents an important turning point for those in the ear, nose, throat, head and neck surgery field as it will reflect the benefit from the exchange of experiences. The conference will include several workshops in ear surgeries, cochlear implants and endoscopic sinus expansions, as well as workshops in communication and speech problems. In addition, before and after the conference advanced workshops will be held on "International Sinus Surgery Course" and "International Voice Surgery Course."

Dr. Khalid praised the role the National Guard Health Affairs plays in the ENT field, pointing out the many complex operations held in the NGHA for cochlear implants, throat restoration surgeries among many others. In addition, the NGHA established several new services in King Abdulaziz Medical City such as a specialized pediatric airway team, the cochlear implant program and a program for the early detection of hearing loss in newborn infants.

Interested specialists were invited to register and attend to benefit from this conference, pointing out that the conference will be accredited with CME hours by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
