The Emergency Department in King Abdulaziz Medical City – Riyadh recently underwent a Comprehensive Development Plan, which entailed a full restructuring of all ER sections as well as the integrated laboratories for the treatment of various respiratory diseases. Moreover, the ER has increased its potential capacity which included the expansion of many medical units such as the screening units, treatment units, acute and critical care units in addition to the advanced quarantine rooms and recovery units. With the ER current expansion, its capacity is approximately 108 cases.
This new expansion was a part of the Transformation Projects Plan for a system-wide redesign and reengineering for healthcare delivery in the Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs, along with managing patient flow and infection and epidemic plans through providing a healthy environment in accordance with the highest international standards and medical protocols on how to deal with patient flow, with absolute commitment not to allow future ER congestion.
The ER Comprehensive Development Plan follows the newly deployed (tracks) system to direct patients as soon as they enter the hospital, making it easier to regulate and to significantly contributes to minimizing the patients waiting time. Additionally, the ER department also seeks to provide high-quality healthcare through screening any patient with any respiratory disease symptoms, in a specially allocated unit adjacent to the ER in order not limit any contact with other patients.
Equally important, and in line with providing optimal patients medical services, an additional pharmacy was opened in the ER at King Abdulaziz Medical City - Riyadh in order to speed up the patients discharge process from the ER, while the previous pharmacy will be designated for patients who are still in the ER. The capacity of the new pharmacy is very high and it is fully equipped with modern techniques to better serve the patients in a timely matter.
On the other hand, the ER in King Abdulaziz Medical City is always keen on continuous medical education programs and holding conferences and workshops to further develop the health workers' skills to acquire significant experience in order to provide outstanding levels of therapeutic services to all patients in line with the mission of the Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs.
