King Abdulaziz Medical City - Western Region, represented by the Adult Diabetes Section, organized the " Educational Week for Diabetes and Fasting Ramadan 2017", which lasted from the 21st till the 25th of May 2017 through the Medical Education Exhibition at the Ambulatory Care Services, where it aims to educate diabetes patients on how to deal with their illness during the holy month of Ramadan, fasting, the risks they might face and the proper conduct in each case to avoid serious complications such as low or high blood sugar, which may harm or even kill the patient.
The event also aims at teaching the patients how to control diabetes in Ramadan through the proper planning of meals, diabetes home tests, when should the person break the fasting in Ramadan, treatment doses alterations and the dietary advice to be followed by diabetic patients to avoid complications. Doctors, diabetes educators, dietitians and diabetes nurses, all have participated in the exhibition, as well as a number of diabetes commissions and organizations.
It is worth noting that this awareness week was accompanied by an educational exhibition at the Red Sea Mall targeting the public to provide medical advice and information in order to raise awareness about any possible complications of diabetes, as well as the necessary precautions to be considered during the holy month of Ramadan.
