Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal Hospital - Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs – Dammam represented by the Disaster Management, organized a fire drill that broke out in the hospital’s kitchen, which lead to various injuries. According to the Executive Regional Director of MNGHA, Eastern Region, Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj: “ the drill aimes to raise the efficiency of the hospital staff and their training on how to respond in such cases”.
Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj ensured that “the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs is keen on raising the awareness levels of workers in the health sector, not only in the medical field, but also in the operational field, as we train employees on how to react under such circumstances, which will provide them with sufficient knowledge and experience to take the appropriate action, which, in turn, refelts patients safety”.
The head of the Disaster Management, Dr. Mohamed Al-Zaiem explained that: “this drill was conducted with the participation of several departments including: the Emergency Department, Firefighting, Military police, Nursing, Respiratory therapy, Radiology, Laboratory, Inpatient Services, Food services, Intensive care, Medical services, and Operation Management.
He added that the drill included five injuries, the First case suffered 50% burns in the face and body and was transferred to a specialized burn hospital in the area after coordinating with the hospital, the second case suffered shortness of breath and first aid was implemented on-site then he was transferred to the intensive care unit, the third case was a patient with burns in the thigh area and his condition was stable and left the emergency room after confirming his safety, the forth case is worker who suffered a panic attack in addition to a minor wound in the thumb and was transferred to the emergency department, the fifth case was suspected to have a fracture, first aid was implemented on-site then he was transferred to the radiology department, where a double fracture was confirmed, then he was scheduled to an urgent surgery and immediately transferred to the Operations Department.
It is worth mentioning that this drill was carried out under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Health represented by the Directorate of Health Affairs in the Eastern Region.
