The Department of Primary Health Care Clinics in King Abdullah Residential City of the National Guard, in collaboration with the Fire Station in King Abdullah Residential City, has implemented a fire drill in the storage department in the clinics caused by an electrical fire in one of the drug storage devices. The scenario results of seven injuries, two are critical, the rest are moderately injured, one with a minor injury, one death case, and the detention of three people on the roof of the building.
Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj, the Regional Executive Director of the Ministry of National Guard -Health Affairs in the Eastern Region pointed out that:” "Such drills come to raise the level of preparedness in the event of such disasters, God forbid, and in order for the medical, technical staff and members of Civil Defense and firefighter, to be fully ready and equipped to deal with such conditions".
"the training is intensively monitored by a committee, then a meeting is held to discuss the errors and setbacks in order to achieve the highest degree of readiness," he said. "We are careful to keep the drills secret, only known to the Organizing Committee in order to achieve its objectives”.
The scenario started after the alarm went off in the storage department in the clinics, the building was then completely evacuated from staff members, visitors, and patients. Both the fire department and the military police were informed to take necessary action.
The fire has developed and the smoke spread to the neighboring sections. A state of emergency was declared in the building, the alarm went off, the building was completely evacuated and the staff and the visitors were taken to the assembly points.
The Fire Department reported to the scene and prepared a triage area while the Military Police carried out its functions commensurate with these cases. The fire has escalated to a disaster stage where The Civil Defense and Fire Protection Department at King Abdulaziz Hospital were called for support.
