Internal Medicine Division in King Abdulaziz Hospital – MNG-HA and in collaboration with the Academic Affairs at King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences in Al-Ahsa, organized the 1st International Internal Medicine Conference, which lasted for three consecutive days, with the participation of a large number of doctors and healthcare providers.
On this occasion, the Regional Executive Director of the Ministry of National Guard -Health Affairs in the Eastern Region, Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj pointed out that The conference covered all the sub-specialties under Internal medicine with the participation of 39 speakers, 3 of which are international and 11 are well-renowned experts in their fields. The total number of participants reached 500; a true indication of how important this conference was.
Moreover, the conference shed light on some of the prominent health problems that we face in our society such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart muscle failure, stroke, the digestive system, endoscopes, and kidney diseases. The conference also highlighted new global drugs like blood thinner alternative to warfarin, in addition to a new drug for the heart muscle failure, a drug that was approved by the FDA a month and a half ago, and was granted approval from the SFDA only a month ago; as it is an important drug for patients with heart disease.
On the sidelines of the conference, 14 specialized workshops were held covering diabetes, heart diseases, blood thinners and CT scans. The conference was also accredited with 30 CME hours by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. In addition, an expo was held with the participation of KSAU-HS’s students covering an awareness about several diseases such as breast cancer, asthma and hepatitis.
