The Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs (MNGHA) has successfully performed a remote robotic surgery (Telesurgery), an advanced technique that enables robotic surgical procedures to be conducted remotely, with the surgeon located in one city while the patient is in another.

Last Wednesday, MNGHA carried out its first procedure using this innovative technology. A medical team based in Riyadh successfully operated on a patient in Jeddah, demonstrating a highly advanced model of collaboration between the Urology and Kidney Surgery teams at King Abdulaziz Medical Cities in Riyadh and Jeddah.

The remote robotic surgery was performed using the KANGDUO – SageBot platform. Surgeons at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh conducted the procedure on a patient at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Jeddah with a high level of precision, leveraging robotic surgical technology powered by artificial intelligence and advanced communication systems.

This achievement marks a significant advancement in the adoption of remote robotic surgery technologies, underscoring the integration and collaboration across MNGHA facilities to enhance the quality and efficiency of healthcare services. It also paves the way for performing specialized surgical procedures without requiring patients to travel to other cities for treatment.
