MNG-HA Celebrates World Hypertension Day
H.E. Dr. Saad Al Mohrij, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs lunched the World Hypertension Day activities on Tuesday, 26th of April, 2106. The activities are organized by Internal Medicine at –king Abdulaziz Medical City - Riyadh, that lasted for three days. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dr. Al Mohrij visited the awareness exhibition together with H.E Dr. Salih Bin Salih, Chairman, Department of Medicine and Internal Medicine Consultant, in addition to a number of MNG-HA officials.
Dr. Salih Bin Salih stated that the World Hypertension Day activities will last for three days, in which the first and second days will be an awareness exhibition at KAMC-R, that will focus on patients by presenting awareness brochures and booklets in addition to an awareness clips about the risks of the disease and ways to prevent it.
Dr. Huda Al Durihim, Consultant, Internal Medicine and Head of the Scientific Committee said: “The main aim of this day is giving awareness to the patients and the staff. Also the physicians specialized in Hypertension (Silent killer) could benefit from this day by learning about its treatment, symptoms, complications and prevention tips”. Moreover, she stated that they aim to exam and give awareness to more than 2500 patients on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Dr. Al Durihim explain that the activities will be held every day from 09:00 a.m. until 03:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday while on Thursday the activities will be from 12:00 p.m. until 05:00 p.m.. The activities on Thursday will cover medical lectures in addition to presenting certificates and commemorative plaques for all participants who contributed to the success of this event.
Regarding the rates of Hypertension among people in KSA, Dr. Al Durihim explain that the disease rates are 40% and it affects women more than men, insuring that our rates are less compared to the world rates that could reach 60%.
