The multidisciplinary medical and surgical team has scheduled the separation for the Algerian conjoined twins (Ikram and Sarah) on Thursday, March 17, 2011. This came after a meeting was held with members of the medical and surgical team led by His Excellency the President of the medical and surgical operations in separating Siamese twins, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah with the presence of the twin’s family. The medical team discussed the current situation of the twins and gave a detailed explanation to the parents on the procedure and its stages.
Dr. Abdullah stressed that the rate of success for the operation is up to 75% and it may last for 12 straight hours through 9 phases with the participation of medical and surgical teams from various medical specialties and different health sectors.
