The Department of Infection Prevention and Control, National Guard Health Affairs, western region concluded the events of the International Infection Prevention Week. The event targeted health care providers to promote their awareness of infection prevention and how to control it.
The awareness week focused on providing education on the latest updates in controlling hospital infections and preventing infectious diseases, as well as the strategies of controlling infections in surrounding environment and preventing its infection.
Activities included educational tours such as hands-on training on hand hygiene and carrying out seasonal influenza vaccination for employees of King Abdulaziz Medical City.
Associate Executive director of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Infection Control, Dr. Abdulhakeem Al Thagafi said: hospital acquired infections can cause death and serious complications for patients affecting the quality of their life.
All health care providers need to be familiar with basic principles of infection prevention and control to provide a safe working environment.
