Department of Emergency Medicine, King Abdul Aziz Hospital – Al Ahsa, Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs received 30 injured in practical training drill held by the hospital to prepare the staff in case of real emergency.
Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj, the Regional Executive Director of the Ministry of National Guard-Health Affairs in the Eastern Region pointed out that the hospital held such drill at least four times a year, during which, evaluation committees observe and take notes to avoid and correct any trouble. In addition, these drills aim to make the hospital staff accustomed to handle such disasters.
Dr. Al Arfaj said: “During these drills, we examine the hospital ability to handle disasters through setting strategies and practical and scientific plans to train the staff based on them by holding lectures and workshops.”
All the participated staff have received the announcement of the disaster and they directly responded according to their specialties. Emergency Department received Emergency cars one by one and handle the 30 patients.
The training lasted for two continuous hours, during which, the participants live realistic experience to how to receive cases, screen them, and handle them. Moreover, there was a room to follow up and set plans.
Dr. Al Arfaj asserted: “ Our goal from this drill is to determine the gaps and select improvement chances in order to face the any disasters.” He also said: “ also, to evaluate the standards’ efficiency to plan for disasters and to assess the hospital plan effectiveness. He pointed out: “ the Training started with an elaborate plan that began from ER then transfer some cases to surgery, intensive care or wards”
