King Abdulaziz Hospital in Al-Ahsa celebrated the International Day of Blood Donation and through a series of lectures and seminars emphasized the importance of blood donation.
More than 8073 donors were recorded up 2009 with more than 130 platelets donors and more than 5208 blood donor. The latest statistics record that over than 6000 patients benefited from all blood types.
Dr. Abdulaziz Al Shahrani, the director of the Laboratory Department at King Abdulaziz Hospital, confirmed future plans to ensure the continuity of this project in NGHA, which would include the establishment of a dedicated blood donation building to meet the great numbers of donors. He stated, "We have conducted an all day awareness program to spread awareness of the importance of blood donation from a medical, religious and social aspect.”
King Abdulaziz Medical City – Jeddah Under the slogan (new blood for a better life) represented by Blood Bank Department organized an awareness day to urge the community to donate blood and encourage donors to continue their noble act.
Hematopathology Consultant and President of the Organizing Committee for this event Wafaa Bassuni said that the blood bank had received 7000 blood and platelet donor over the past year in 2009.
The head of the Blood Donation Program at KAMC-J Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Thaqafi said that the program began early in 2009 -2010 in Jeddah and Makkah and utilized a fully equipped mobile unit provided by the National Guard Health Affairs. In this regard, NGHA Executive Director of Medical Services in the Western Province Mr. Mansour Al-Jundi said that this is an important event that aims to spread awareness of the importance of blood donation among the community.
