International Day of Persons with Disabilities activities were concluded on Monday, 24th of December 2012 which was organized by King Abdulaziz Medical City - Jeddah under the slogan of “Disability is a state of mind, not a state of body”.
The Director of Public Relations and Media Affairs and the head of the organizing committee Mr. Abdulrahman Maghrabi said that King Abdulaziz Medical City celebrated this event in respect and support for the dignity, rights and well-being of people with special needs. These events started on Saturday, 22nd of December 2012 and a Seminar entitled "No Disability with Willpower" was held and covered many topics including:
National Guard Health Affairs Experience regarding hiring people with special needs
People with special needs and their role in Islam and the attitude of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) towards them.
Helping people with special needs with their mobility and travelling.
Parents Experience - a documentary film about early intervention.
Furthermore, a number of speakers participated in this event as well as related authorities such as Ebsar Association, Saudi Airlines, Disabled Children’s Association, Institute of Deafness and Jeddah special needs Center, in addition to the participation of the College of Nursing students at of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) in Jeddah, Department of Infection Prevention and Clinical Nutrition Department. A number of children with special needs participated in this event as well and various educational and awareness materials and gifts were distributed to those people with special needs.
The Participating parties well as the employees with special needs at the National Guard Health Affairs were honored in the seminar and the educational forum. After that, awards were given to the top five phrases for people with special needs including:
My disability made me loose a part of my life, but don’t make me loose it all with your attitude.
We support by relating and connecting and not by scorning and mocking.
It is worth mentioning that an event will be held in Red Sea Mall which will include the most striking expression on Twitter in regard to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday, December 26th, 2012.
