Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Hospital, MNGHA in Al Madinah celebrated the completion of the constructions of intravenous feeding mixture "IV Room" and a "Chemotherapy Room". The hospital held a celebration where Mr. Mansour Al Askar, Executive Director of Operations announced the completion of construction work for both units. The celebration was held with the presence of Dr. Turki Al Wasaidi the Deputy Executive Director of Medical Services, Dr. Sahal Khoshhal the Director of Pharmaceutical Care and a number of related departments heads.
The new IV Room is considered the best qualitative development in pharmaceutical services within Al Madinah region, as it will contribute –upon commencement- to preparing drugs such as antibiotics, high-risk drugs, blood-thinning drugs, and saline in a very accurate manner and with a very high degree of sterilization "ISO 5". The automatic mixing device is linked to a specific program that maintains an accurate calculation of dosages in order to avoid any error. Hence, this project stands to reflect the highest in regard to patient safety throughout the region.
The "Chemotherapy preparation Room" which has been granted the generous approval to be established and commenced; is considered a significant advancement in the quality of provided services throughout Al Madinah region. It is distinguished as the first project that adheres to the highest international standards and it guarantees the quality of preparations and preservation of patients as well as employee’s safety from the harm of exposure to such drugs during the preparation. The preparation process duration depends on the complexity of the drug and it takes one to ten minute’s pre-drug. However, despite the short preparation period, the accuracy of the preparing and mixing equipment is very high.
Dr. Sahal Khoshhal the Director of Pharmaceutical Care, explained that the two units were constructed to exceed the international standards, indicating that the global standard for sterilization is ISO 7, while the implemented standard is ISO 5, which is considered an achievement of pride that will benefit the accuracy and quality level of health care provided to patients.
