
His Excellency, Chief Executive Officer of Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs, President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, inspected the Oncology Radiation Therapy Centre at King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital in Riyadh. The visit took place Wednesday morning, on the 29th of July 2015 before the new expansions take place which will feature some global advanced equipments.
After that, Dr. Al Knawy met with the centre’s working cadres and specialists where he listened to a detailed presentation about how the new equipments work and their quality in the diagnosis and treatment of tumours.
Radiation Therapy is an essential part of cancer treatment, as some studies showed that two thirds of cancer patients will likely need radiotherapy at some point during the course of treatment.
In addition, the Oncology Radiation Therapy Centre is now equipped with state-of-the-art equipment such as two radiation machines (LINAC) with modern imaging technology which allows for assessing the tumour before each treatment, and the revolutionary robotic radio-surgery system (Cyberknife) with real time tumour tracking, allowing the treatment of a wide variety of benign and malignant tumours. The centre also won the the best architectural design in the Middle East Region.
Moreover, special operative rooms for brachytherapy procedures are equipped with the highest modern machines to provide after-surgery medical care to match international oncology centres in the US and in Europe. A centre fully equipped with the latest radiation technology that covers modern CT simulators, in compliance with the MNG-HA’s mission to provide optimal patient healthcare at all levels.
