Burn Unit Services at King Abdulaziz Medical City - Jeddah in collaboration with the Department of Health Education Services and Safety and Fire Control launched a Burns Awareness and Prevention campaign under the title of "Fire Control is Everyone’s Responsibility". This campaign is held in the outpatient center with the presence of admin officials and medical departments and the participation of relevant institutions.
Dr. Mansour Al Jundi, Executive Director of Medical Services, Western Region, pointed out the importance of burns awareness and prevention as a tactic strategy in keeping the community safety.
Dr. Mamoun Daghestani, Plastic Surgery Consultant, Burn Unit Director, and the head of organizing committee, clarified that research and studies indicate that most of home accidents occur as a result of lack of safety awareness, we should recognize the danger, its causes, how to prevent it and how to deal with it, and safety cannot be applied without highlighting safety guidelines to the general public.
Finally, Dr. Mamoun explained necessary safety precautions each house should be taken:
Keeping and regularly maintaining a fire extinguisher as well as training family members on how to use it.
Installing smoke detectors and training family members on how to act properly in case of fire.
