King Abdulaziz Medical City – Riyadh represented by Microbiology laboratory is pleased to announce the introduction of MALDI-TOF MS system in our institute for rapid Bacterial Identification within few minutes from positive culture.
MALDI-TOF (Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-of-Flight) is an innovative, automated microbial identification system that uses mass spectrometry technology allowing the analysis of biomolecules. In just minutes, this mass spectrometry technology can provide clear identification at the species, genus and family level. Nowadays, we can provide clinicians with quick information to start appropriate treatment, contributing to overall patient care and outcomes.
Furthermore, the system functions safely away from the dangers of environmental pollution, which can lead to negative outcomes or malfunctions regarding the laboratory biosafety. In addition, it provides full flexible traceability for which can contribute to increasing the efficiency of the laboratory.
The Microbiology Lab at KAMC is the first lab in Riyadh and the second in Saudi Arabia to acquire such a state of the art technology.
