Lecture Hall A, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences Convention Center
13 – 14 September 2015
Foreword
King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh faced a very
critical time in its history with the activation of PHASE III of the Infectious Diseases Epidemic Plan that shutdown
the Emergency Department, Outpatient and Inpatient Service Corona Virus (MERS-CoV) outbreak.
Overcrowding and boarding in the Emergency Medicine Department have been identified as
the main culprit which sparked this outbreak. It has brought an enormous impact to patient care and measures
have been taken to deal with this issue as best as we can. In addition, NGHA has established all infection control
measures and practices possible to deal with this outbreak aggressively.
The MERS-CoV Outbreak Management: Planning for the Future workshop is designed to plan for
the future with an objective of situational analysis and embark on system-wide redesign and reengineering healthcare
delivery in NGHA. We are pleased to have invited an elite team from the United Kingdom, (NHS) National
Health Service, which is led by the Chief Executive Officer of the University College of London Hospitals Sir Robert
Anthony Naylor to study with us this ambitious critical improvement program. We aim to develop a technical
report/plan to serve as an important foundation for our organization.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our guests for joining us on a short notice,
the organization team and all of NGHA’s valued staff.
Please join me in this journey towards Cultural Transformation in our healthcare system as
well as building on trust and commitment to our patients.
