The National Guard Health Affairs in Jeddah is extending its care for about 2824 patients under the Home Healthcare Program which began in 1997.

Director of Public Relations and Media Services Mr. Abdulrahman Al Magrabi said: “The program started with the belief that patient services is a result of patient needs supported by academic and scientific research to increase and reach optimal levels of patient services”.

Since the Home Health Care Program in Jeddah was first established, it has played a pivotal role in providing home health care for more than 2824 patients, short-term and long term care sometimes extending to years in the cases of the elderly and cancer patients.

Moreover, the program services target patients with the following: chronic diseases, mental illness, patients with peritoneal dialysis, palliative care and cancer patients. The center also supports patients at their homes by preparing patients homes in a way that they can better care for themselves, providing medical and preventive equipment, and domestic help to patients who require assistance.

The program will also offer incurable wound care services and follow-up treatment.

The NGHA in collaboration with the Women's Charitable Society have founded “Dar Al Aman” in 2003 which is considered the first palliative care center for chronic diseases. The Center also collaborated with the Home Health Care Charity Foundation in establishing "the guesthouse" next to Princess Norah bint Abdulrahman Al Faisal Oncology Center at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Jeddah National Guard in 2004 as the first house to provide palliative care and accommodation for cancer patients.

It is important to note that the National Guard Health Affairs represented by Jeddah’s Home Health Care program over the past years has trained many cadres on home health care services from the National Guard, King Abdulaziz University Hospital, the Ministry of Health, Al-Joof Center and Al Madinah Center. It has also participated in training NGHA faculty nursing students and providing training courses for a number of workers in King Abdulaziz medical City-Jeddah. The program is continuously training the families of patients and spreading awareness when it comes to home health care programs.

In the coming years, the National Guard Health Affairs seeks to increase home health care services and to add new services in order to cover all NGHA hospitals and centers in the various regions of the Kingdom.
