The Dental Public Health Committee at MNG-HA launched the Oral Health Month Campaign which aimed to raise awareness levels of oral health and hygiene among community members. The committee brought together a group of dedicated dental professionals, health care providers and dental students to promote the benefits of oral health to patients, their families, caregivers, elementary students and others.
Oral health observance began with school outreach program at the Princess Nora bint Abdul Rahman University on the 6th of April 2016, together with the students of College of Dentistry, KSAU-HS. The participants in the campaign distributed informative oral health pamphlets to the attendees.
Then, the activities took place at KASCH Playroom Area on the 27th and 28th of April 2016, in which dental assistants volunteers welcomed and entertained patients with healthy mouth masks. Moreover, students of the College of Dentistry, KSAU-HS, educated patients and parents on how to maintain proper oral hygiene and demonstrated Fluoride application.
In addition, the dental students educated the attendees with the right diet and oral hygiene habits and demonstrated proper brushing and flossing techniques. Last but not least, since the Oral Health Campaign is not only for health education, but also for an interactive, fun and play time with the children, the committee conducted special activities for children such as distributing coloring books, making mouth masks, painting cast mold, making colorful washable tattoos and setting health tooth photo booth and let the children smile and took photos.
