The National Guard Health Affairs (NGHA) under the guidance of His Excellency – Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, NGHA Chief Executive Officer and President of King Saud Bin Abdulaziz for Health Sciences - opened today at 10 A.M. the first phase of the Emergency Care Center (ECC) expansion in King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh.
The expansion covers a total area of roughly 430m2 (i.e. an additional 30%) and boasts 4 levels of additional facilities to better serve both patients and staff educational needs.
The expansion of the ECC will improve patient flow, thereby delivering timely quality care, reduce patient waiting times on accounts of an increased capacity within the ED, enhance the patient experience and satisfaction and the working environment for hospital staff to better serve patients around the clock.
Moreover, additional Pediatric and Adult Emergency Care treatment areas have been created, accommodating a total of 36 bays. 137.93m2 have been added to accommodate additional pediatric emergency care facilities – 8 bays and 1 isolation area. 302.05m2 have been added to accommodate 27 additional patient bays, including 2 isolation rooms in the adult emergency care area.
Over 100 offices have been shifted from the ground floor of current ED, in addition to accommodating conference rooms, classrooms, libraries, reading rooms and lounges, to free space in the ground floor to be utilized for prospective clinical expansion ventures in the second phase of the expansion, namely the installation of a Computerized Tomography (CT) scan and expansion of the STAT lab – hence, further availing state of the art medical technology to both patients and staff.
The Emergency Department at King Abdulaziz Medical City-Riyadh serves all the Saudi Arabian National Guard and their dependents via roughly 500 clinicians and allied health specialists – most of which have completed higher training abroad.
The ECC expansion will be carried out in staged phases, and with the current expansion increasing bed capacity by roughly 40% i.e. the ECC now has 120 emergency care beds, whereas prior to the expansion there were only 84.
It is the intention of the National Guard Health Affairs, King Abdulaziz Medical City- Riyadh to uphold the highest clinical standards and practices in tandem to continually improving both the patient and staff experience on-site. The expansion of the ECC will serve to ascertain National Guard Health Affairs’ position as a regional leader in healthcare delivery.
