The Pediatrics Department in King Abdul Aziz Hospital – Al Ahsa, Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs, in collaboration with the Academic Affairs - King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences in Al-Ahsa, have conducted the 6th Pediatrics Symposium for the latest developments in the Pediatrics field. The symposium featured several speakers, consultants and specialists. Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj, the Regional Executive Director of the Ministry of National Guard -Health Affairs in the Eastern Region pointed out that : “ for the sixth year, this symposium achieved amazing results, making it one of the leading symposiums in the region".
He added: "The large number of participants reflected the importance of this event, as it covers the latest developments in this field, while showcasing the latest international medical studies”.
Head of the Organizing Committee and Chairman of the General Pediatric Department in King Abdul Aziz Hospital – Al Ahsa, Dr. Hesham AlGirim said: “MNG-HA has always been keen on the development of continuous medical education for medical professionals including physicians, nurses, technicians, thus providing courses, seminars; and this conference which is being held for the 6th year in a row, covered several lectures, seminars and workshops". In addition, “ the Scientific Committee allocated three main axes for common diseases in children, such as vitamin D deficiency, congenital heart defects, kidney failure, new vaccines, and genetic blood diseases and others”.
Dr. AlGirim also added that: "The second axis covered presenting a number of lectures on rare diseases, developments in pediatrics, such as high levels of fat and cholesterol in children, due to poor diet and lack of movement, the whooping cough in infants, and intestine failure related to liver disease".
Dr. Al Qurum that "it was held on the sidelines of the conference three workshops covered the ethical practices in pediatrics, and a workshop on how to deal with fellow ungainly, and other workshop on the use of therapeutic devices when children with asthma."
Last but not least, the symposium came out with several recommendations such as, the necessity of holding more conferences, seminars and workshops for the medical staff from nursing, doctors, on follow-ups of the latest developments in the specialty of pediatrics, in particular, evidence based medicine, which will positively reflect on the quality of health services provided to children.
