The 1st Congress Meeting of Pharmaceutical Care officials of Ministry of National Guard –Health Affairs – Jeddah was held in King Abdulaziz Medical City - Western Region to discuss and exchange experiences in the field of pharmaceutical care in hospitals, including the automation of pharmaceutical services at the hospital, the Clinical Pharmacology Fellowship Program and the challenges facing the profession of pharmacy, as was highlighting the medications exchange mechanism for inpatients and discussing all vital issues in the region to take advantage of their expertise in the field of and patient safety.
Dr. Hani Al-Hamdan, director of Pharmaceutical Care Services - KAMC-J explained that this meeting increases the chances of reaching the desired results in addition to being a platform for networking between professionals and colleagues, along with facilitating knowledge exchange and benefiting from the latest remarkable and significant scientific and practical developments in the practice of pharmaceutical services over the past years, adding that the support of communication between departments offers an excellent opportunity to exchange and rotate stocks of medicines between the government hospitals in the region, leading to reducing waste and increasing the effect of benefits to all patients, as well as working on linking the records of the drugs dispensed to patients from government hospitals in the region.

His Excellency Brig. General Eng. Khalid Mohammad Bakulka, Executive Director of Operations, NGHA, Western Region pointed out that the permanent follow-ups to meet the needs of hospital pharmacies and health centers in coordination with the concerned departments limit the delay of dispensing medications to patients. He also added that field visits to hospital pharmacies, health centers and forming and expressing opinions to suit the patient can benefit raising the level of medical services to overcome the difficulties facing pharmacists and patients. Last but not least, he also noted the most vital roles of pharmaceutical services are overseeing the implementation of medication safety programs, as well as the development of pharmaceutical care and upgrading international standards by introducing modern systems for the practice of pharmaceutical services and the optimal use of the medications.
