In a first of its kind in the Western Region, a successful surgery was performed in Prince Mohammad bin Abdul Aziz Hospital in AlMadinah Al Munawwarah. This operation which is considered one of the novel surgeries that includes the widening of the Eustachian tube, the duct which is connecting the middle ear with nasal cavity (nasopharynx), was performed on a 45 years old man. The patient was suffering from narrowness in this tube that leads to bad ventilation of the middle year, chronic discharges and defected hearing sense.
Three operations were done before for this patient, to install tube for ear ventilation, which is a routine surgical repair to relieve symptoms in such cases.
The surgical operation was completed within 45 minutes, by a surgical team headed by Dr. Ahmad Al Kurdi, ENT Consultant in PMBAH. Using nasal endoscope, the surgical team inserted a widening balloon in the defected tube through nose.
Further, the patient and his family expressed their deep appreciation to Prince Mohammed bin Abdul Aziz, with grateful thanks to all those who put an end to the sufferings of the patient.
