The Infection Prevention and Control Department concluded its (Polio National Campaign) for the year 2020, In solidarity with the National Campaign of the Ministry of Health, the campaign began at employee Health Clinic at the hospital, KSAU-HS clinic, and all Primary Health Care Centers which held up for five days, It aimed to raise awareness and prevent poliomyelitis for children between the ages of 1 and 5 years old.
Dr. Asim Al- AL Saedi, Associate Executive Director of Infection Prevention Control Department explained that The National Polio Campaign comes within the framework of the WHO Polio eradication program worldwide, and reaches a world free of polio, as immunization is one of the most important goals of this program.
He referred that the Latest statistics show that Polio cases have decreased by over 99%. The reduction is the result of the global effort to eradicate the disease. However, As long as a single child remains infected, children in all countries are at risk of contracting polio
According to WHO, One in 200 infections leads to irreversible paralysis. Among those paralyzed, 5% to 10% die when their breathing muscles become immobilized. So, the Annual National Polio campaign is conducted to ensure the safety of our children in Polio free country.
