The surgery lasted 8 hours
The Surgical team at King Abdulaziz Cardiac Center at King Abdulaziz Medical City - Riyadh in the Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs has successfully performed the second phase of the Polish baby treatment plan on Wednesday, the 3rd of February 2016. The treatment was based on a directive from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, for the transfer and treatment to King Abdulaziz Medical City - Riyadh in the Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs.
The first surgery (Jakub) underwent was on the 22nd of November 2015, the surgery was complicated and lasted for 18 hours and involved the restructuring of the right lung’s arteries. After that, Jakub needed to recover in the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care, followed by a period of recovery and rehabilitation in order to prep him for the 2nd phase of treatment.
The Head of Cardiac Surgery Department, Cardiac Surgery Consultant and head of the medical team Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Khalidi pointed out that the medical tests after the first phase of treatment confirmed its success and showed a significant improvement in Jakub’s condition, represented in low pulmonary blood pressure, high blood oxygen levels and improved heart functions.
Stressing that the second surgery was performed Wednesday morning, on the 3rd of February 2016, and marks the final stage of Jakub’s treatment. This surgery involved the restructuring of the left lung’s arteries and lasted 8 hours. Currently, Jajub will remain in the ICU until he fully recovers.
Additionally, Jacob who is 13 months old, was suffering from a genetic arteries condition and in response to a request from the Government of Poland , the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud issued an approval, after which Prince Miteb bin Abdullah, Minister of National Guard, has directed officials at King Abdulaziz Medical City – Riyadh to start the treatment plan.
